When the pupils at Daviot School and the members of Daviot Parish Church heard that trees in their grounds were to be felled, they wanted to ensure that the wood from the trees would be put to good use.

Derek Rose from Care in Strathnairn came up with the idea of cutting the wood to usable lengths and distributing it to our clients for them to use as firewood. Cutting all that wood could have been a huge job, but Derek asked local business A & C Douglas-Jones, who specialise in firewood sales, for some assistance, and they very kindly loaned Derek their machinery to make his task less onerous.

However there was still a lot of work to be done in getting the uncut wood to Mr Douglas-Jones premises, and help from the pupils from Daviot School made our job a whole lot easier.

There are still a few loads of logs available for people in the area who are either pensioners or disabled, and can be obtained by contacting Duncan Hendry.

Care in Strathnairn and our clients would like to thank Andrew.McCallum Head Teacher of Daviot Primary and his staff and pupils, Daviot Parish Church, and A & C Douglas-Jones for all their assistance, a very worthwhile local partnership.
